The Experience of Creating images
Vanda has a true passion for landscapes, nature and the outdoors. In constant search for those fleeting moments of magic that turn our world into something extraordinary. Vanda finds her inspiration in quiet landscapes, and the intimate details that abound in nature. In her images she strives to reflect the atmosphere, feeling, and sheer wonderment that our natural world evokes within us. In her talk Vanda will focus on photography as a journey and experience of connecting with the surrounding world. Appreciating and making the most of whatever place, time and location you are in. Finding the extraordinary beauty that exists within everyday things, and looking beyond the obvious.

Forensic Photography
This lecture will provide an explanation of what forensic photography is and what it does, showing how photography may record, enhance, present or distort evidence. Numerous illustrated case examples will demonstrate a surprising variety of photography in forensic science. At the same time this is a story of the development of technologies and the constantly changing professional context, all told through the practice and research of the speaker. Do not expect dead bodies but do expect to learn about fingerprints, blood, visual perception, specialist lighting and much more.

Abandoned America – Fragments of an American Dream
Author of 14 books, Tony‘s work has appeared in many photographic magazines both in the UK and in America. A passionate traveller, Tony (together with his wife Eva) has made frequent visits to the USA, documenting the depopulating areas of western Nebraska, North and South Dakota and south-eastern Montana. The culmination of this work was the much celebrated book Ghosts in the Wilderness; abandoned America, which shows numerous haunting images of deserted communities and homesteads, a graphic illustration of the American dream backfiring in a hostile land. Tonight he will talk about the sequel to this book and his latest project.

Movement in Photography
Derek says he is drawn to create images that require experimentation and investigation. Images that are natural but can’t be seen with the naked eye. In these images colours swirl into each other and edges are undefined, yet you can imagine shapes and forms. They are open to interpretation and evoke emotion, and often the scale is ambiguous leaving it to you to decide for yourself what you are looking at. Tonight he will show us the use of Movement in Photography, including Camera Movement - with and without flash, Subject Movement - with and without flash, and using Camera Movement and Subject Movement together. It will also include the colourful world of the Harris Shutter, and how to make people disappear!

Great Photographs of the 20th Century
The camera has given us some of the most vivid images of modern times. This lecture examines a series of brilliant photographs and explains what makes these images so special. In particular we look at photographs which explore the depth of human experience in a spirit of optimism and compassion. The photographer involved range from the pioneers, such as Jacques-Henri Lartigue, to some mid-Century masters, including Bill Brandt, Bert Hardy and Henri Cartier-Bresson. Finally, we look at the work of more recent exponents, such as Martin Parr and Andreas Gursky. Brian promises his talk tonight will not be technical. He says he will concentrate far more on the content of photographs, what they say to us, and how we might think about them.
